A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BAREFOOT BAY RECREATION DISTRICT RELATING TO THE FLORIDA HOUSE REAPPORTIONMENT, EXPRESSING CONCERN REGARDING SPLITTING BAREFOOT BAY RECREATION DISTRICT AND MICCO OUT OF BREVARD COUNTY; REQUESTING THAT BAREFOOT BAY RECREATION DISTRICT AND MICCO COMMUNITY CONTINUE TO BE REPRESENTATED BY BREVARD COUNTY REPRESENTATIVES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the citizens and the Board of Trustees of Barefoot Bay have struggled to maintain our ties to Brevard County, and
WHEREAS, placing the 30th House District in Indian River County would seriously undermine all of our past efforts, and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Barefoot Bay and Micco have vigorously voiced opposition to any placement of our communities in another county other than Brevard County, and
WHEREAS, Brevard County residents and community and government leaders over the years have undertaken extraordinary measures to maintain the integrity of this community as a single, unified county.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BAREFOOT BAY RECREATION DISTRICT, BREVARD COUNTY , FLORIDA
Section 1. That the Board of Trustees is concerned for any legislative attempts to split Brevard County by placing Barefoot Bay and Micco communities in another county.
Section 2. The Board of Trustees requests that the Florida House Redistricting Committee adopt legislation maintaining Barefoot Bay and Micco in Brevard County.
Section 3. Copies of this Resolution shall be sent to each member of the Brevard County Legislative Delegation, the co-chairs of the Florida House Redistricting Committee, and Representative Stan Mayfield, (R-Vero Beach).
Section 4. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BAREFOOT BAY RECREATION DISTRICT THIS 8th DAY OF MARCH, 2002.
