BBRD UPDATE
8-26-08

State DRC offices may be relocating soon from Barefoot Bay to West Melbourne.  Residents are urged to contact state agencies available on-site tomorrow (8-27) at the DRC if services are needed.

FEMA has authorized the “individual assistance” program.  Residents are urged to call
1-800-621-FEMA or 1-800-621-3362
to register for assistance.  FEMA teams may be arriving in the area soon.

Brevard County Health Department has available private well test kits.  A significant number of private wells in the Palm Bay area have been found to be contaminated with fecal matter.

Ed Lions, the Director of the Brevard County Permitting and Enforcement department, will be in Barefoot Bay on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 11:00am to set up a satellite office near the DRC, to assist property owners with Zoning and Building Permits.

The DRC is scheduled to be in place to assist residents

All activities had been canceled to make space for a State Disaster Recovery Center.  The State Disaster Recovery Center has been moved to the shopping center.  We apologize for any inconvenience.
 

TROPICAL STORM FAY BBRD UPDATE
8-22-08

The Salvation Army is providing food for residents affected by the storm. They have a Mobile Canteen truck set up in the Building "A parking lot at 625 Barefoot Blvd.

All Barefoot Bay Recreation District Facilities are open today. 

Brevard County Road & Bridge Department has been working to remove debris from the canal system at Micco Road.  Drainage conditions are expected to improve, but localized flooding conditions in the streets could continue to be a problem. 

Residents are advised to use caution.

We are assisting the county to assess the amount of damage from Tropical Storm Fay.  Please report any damage to your property sustained from water.  Please report damage from leaking roof or damage from water under your home, please call (772) 664-7020.

Alert:  Home Depot reports that new shipments of emergency supplies are available.

Alert:  First United (formerly Citrus Bank) has sent a truck load of food to the Micco Community Center.

Alert:  Volunteers from local area church’s and worship services are available for assistance (food, clothing etc).  Please call the Admin offices if you need assistance.

On August 19th, 2008 at approximately 1:15pm, there was a small tornado touchdown in Barefoot Bay.  It traveled from east to west, parallel to Micco Rd. impacting homes from the vicinity of Puffin/East Dr. to the Cashew/Laurel Cir. section, Waterway and Wren Cir. area before exiting the west side of the community.  It damaged 132 homes, 9 of which are uninhabitable.  Two minor injuries were reported.  We are not aware of any damage to BBRD facilities at the present time.  To see pictures of the damage Click Here If you are traveling and have a home in the affected area, contact us at (772) 664-7020 for information on your home.

There will be a Youth Group open house and organizational meeting on September 8th at 7pm in the Youth Group building (the one next to the water department).  The purpose of the meeting will be to encourage suggestions and ideas on programming and activities.  The public is invited.
