APRIL 2006 GOLF
COMMITTEE MEETING
Meeting called to order on April 7,
2006, at 9:08 a.m. by Chairman, Bob Peet. Followed by Pledge of Allegiance. Committee Members Present:
Chairman: Bob Peet; Members: Tom Guinther,
Hugh Murphy, Jeanne Osborne. Also Present: Director of Golf, Jim Kormondy; Golf Shop Manager,
Sandy Lobello; and Course Superintendent, Mike Henderson. Guests in Attendance: Neil Reardon, Tony Pitrulle, Pat Dunckley, John
Hall, and Maggie Hall. The minutes of the March 2006,
meeting were approved with a correction offered by Jeanne Osborne, that Pat
Dunckleys name be added with Jeannes in thanking Sandy Lobello and Jim
Kormondy and the Golf Course staff for their hard work on the tournament. Correspondence: Jeanne Osborne received a phone call from the
Chairmen of the Board Wilma Weglein, saying that John R. Smith, liaison member from the
District Board, was so sorry that he could not be at the meeting today as his recuperation
from his surgery is taking longer. Bob Peet expressed his and the Boards wish for a speedy
recovery. Unfinished Business: Jeanne Osborne thanked Sandy Lobello for typing
the By-Laws. New Business: No new business. Tom Guinther asked about
putting up a net by the parking lot on the 18th hole? Jim Kormondy said it is in the works, that he has
some netting which will be used for this purpose. This
will be done in house, and they are working on the Pro Shop now, so when they finish this
will be addressed. Neil Reardon asked about
the cutting of the cups, could they be sunk in lower so they would not stick up so high? Mike Henderson said they are being cut correctly
but when the greens get watered this makes the cups pop up.
He will continue to address this issue.
Bob Peet said he drank water from the cooler on number one hole and it had a
strong chlorine taste. Mike Henderson said
that since he has no shop they have had to fill the coolers from the hose located at the
golf cart barn. Tony Pitrulle suggested that
they add a spigot by the barn to fill the coolers. Jim Kormondy said he ordered a new RV
hose. Tony Pitrulle also asked if it would be feasible to put yardage markers on the
course. He also stated that golfers have not
been raking the sand traps after they have been in them.
This makes it hard to hit your ball if it lands in one of these depressions.
Also it was discussed about where the rakes should be left, in the sand or out? Jim Kormondy said they have tried various options
but the best way seems to be to put them in the sand trap.
We all need to be better caretakers of our course which also includes
repairing your divots. There was a discussion about the 150
yard markers poles, some do not like these poles and want them removed. Mike Henderson would prefer not using the poles as
they must be removed and replaced every time the grass is mowed. In the past, when they tried not using the
poles, some people were not happy. A motion
was made by Jeanne Osborne, and seconded by Hugh Murphy, to remove the poles, and it was
so moved. Pat Dunckley asked about the rake
handles giving people splinters and Mike Henderson said that new handles will be coming
in, on Monday. Pat also asked about the
clips on the flags causing people to be cut. Mike
is trying to find other clips for the flags. Committee Reports:
Report from Golf Shop Manager, Sandy Lobello: Membership is still about the same as before at 509. Jim Kormondy and I are in the process of planning a benefit tournament to be held on June 24th for Devereux. They are located in Viero and treat children with a wide range of psychiatric problems. The ages range from 15 to 17 years but they do take some as young as 5 years old. You will be seeing more information on this, in the coming weeks. Report from Golf Pro, Jim
Kormondy: The Devereux tournament
already has many business sponsors, they also have an artist, who is going to have a
special painting, which will be used for a silent auction.
The entrance fee will be $30.00 per person. Neil Reardon asked Jim Kormondy
about the lake bank on hole number 9. Jim said they have temporarily fixed it. The money received from the Recreation District is
being used for the tees and bunkers. This
year there are still ten or eleven bunkers to be finished then we were going to start on
the lake banks, but we have noticed that most of the culverts are collapsing, causing
severe drainage problems. These will be
addressed this year and hopefully next year we can start on the lake banks. Bob Peet and Jeanne Osborne suggest that more people need
to go before the Board asking that the
$40,000.00 budget for the Golf Course be raised, so some of these projects can be funded. Jim Kormondy said the next
tournament is the Pro Am and they only had about nine spots left. This will be held on the 22nd of April. The other new thing
happening, is the work on the Pro Shop, they will be taking a short break
next week, to fix the awing on Pool #1, then they will return and finish the Pro Shop. Report from Superintendent,
Mike Henderson: We applied pellets
in the ground to kill the mole crickets. We
are also working on the fences on hole #5, then moving on to hole #2 then #9. They will be
painted white, so they will once again look good. A very extensive discussion about
filling the divot, especially on the tees, followed with many suggestions. Some of the suggestions were putting back on the
tees, buckets of sand. Mike Henderson stated
that this was tried in the past and the sand in the buckets were not being used. He said sometimes he did not have to replace this
sand for a week, thereby, showing people were not using them. It was further asked if the rangers, in their
normal course of operation, filled these divots? This
might be hard lifting a five gallon bucket of sand for some people. Mike was happy to have his people fill the divots
every morning and it was a suggestion that we all need to be better care takers, of our
course, by filling our own, as well as a few other divots. A motion was made by Jeanne Osborne
and seconded by Hugh Murphy to adjourn the meet. It
was so adjourned at 10:05 a.m. Respectfully Submitted, Maggie Hall, Temporary Secretary |
