Barefoot Bay Golf Course
JANUARY 8, 2010 GOLF COMMITTEE MEETINGMeeting called to order on January 8, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman, Tony Pitrulle. Followed by Pledge of Allegiance. Committee Members Present: Chairman, Tony Pitrulle, members Helene Wilson, Ed Layton, Janice Huntington and Sue Ansley. Also Present: Director of Golf Course Jim Kormondy, Pro Shop Manager Sandy Lobello and Course Superintendent Mike Henderson. Minutes: The Chairman suggested we dispense with reading of the minutes from the December meeting. Layton seconded it. At this time, Huntington stated that several people have approached her regarding golf members who are not married but living together. They are now paying for single membership and wish to be considered for family membership. Lobello stated family memberships are issued when a couple is married or both golf members are listed on their deed. This is not a golf course rule but one of the District. This discussion resulted in Pitrulle saying he would bring this up to District Laison Tom Guinther as the Board of Trustees are the only ones that can make this change. Sue Ansley and Helene Wilson were welcomed as new members. Layton: Men's League Board voted down to change its By-laws to allow greens fee players to join its league. As far as he was concerned this is a “Dead Issue”. Both the Ladies 9 Hole Association and the Ladies 18 Hole Association has voted to admit greens fee players. Unfinished Business: Kormondy - The Collins home, that had water seepage problems, had their skirting put on. Plants behind the 7th green, by the 8th tee, are doing well and this area is considered “in play”. No free drop from that area. Layton was asked to see if the Men's Club would be interested in purchasing and donating a replacement tape recorder. New Business: Ansley asked if the tee boxes on 9 and 18 could be leveled off. Henderson stated that this would be a major project. However, Kormondy and he would discuss it. Report from Director of Golf, Jim Kormondy: The next tournament will be the Veterans Council Tournament, which will be sponsored this year by the DAV, Chapter 155, on January 16. It will be a low-net, in-flight format. On February 13, we will be hosting an outside tournament. It will be called The Florida East Coast Executive Golf Course Championship. We will be inviting players from all the executive courses in Brevard and Indian River counties. There will be a senior division (65+) and a regular division (64 and under). The format will be low- net, in-flight. The tournament will be open to the public and aggressively advertised to outside play. Entry fee is $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members. This will include lunch and awards banquet in the evening. Tee times will run all day and be arranged by the Pro Shop according to flights. Ansley: Has the Pro Shop ever considered putting out a survey to golf members for their input to assess their pleasure/displeasure in how our course is maintained or run? This survey could also used as a means to improve membership. A good survey could also be used for visitors. Kormondy said that such a survey was done 6 years ago and it was helpful. Revenue has been going up yearly (with the exception of last year) while membership has been going down. Report from Pro Shop Manager, Sandy Lobello: Membership update not yet completed. Semi-annual membership has gained and is at 25. Fairways have been fertilized. Will take up to 2 weeks because of cold. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:50. The next meeting will be February 5, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. |
